Playing with scraps ~

With summer coming to an end, and me heading back to work, and our days - hotter than hot, I haven't been in the mood to do much sewing. I did manage to make a Christmas quilt that still needs a backing, a lap quilt that still needs a backing and a little wall hanging that still needs finishing. The fun news is that ...The San Diego Quilt Show will be here in a few weeks, maybe that's what I need to get me going again! Just a peek of the wall hanging ~~

Design Wall ~

After reading Marianne's blog  (thequiltingedge )  about making a design wall - I decided to give it a try.
Although I did mine a bit different. I used one long insulation board 3/4 x 4' x 8' and cut it to 5' x 6' and  instead of using batting I used felt, because that is what I already had. My problem is that- where I use the duct tape to tape the insulation board together, The tape, shows through the felt, you can see it at the bottom of the picture.
Other then that- I really like it!
Thank you Marianne!
Ya all should give it a try - pretty easy!

Tiare Style.....

There are cute little island boutiques that I love walking through. I found beautiful quilts, that were designed on Maui, but made in Bali. The colors are inspired by Hawaii flora.

Converging Corners Quilt ~

I finished the converging corners quilt, except for the quilting and I'm not sure how to quilt this one. I used Filminthefridge's converging corners tutorial. When I saw hers, I knew that I wanted to make one too. I decided to use my stash of Tula Pink's, Parisville that has been in my closet for a few years. I'm glad I did, I really like it. The  pictures really don't do it justice, we've had SUNNY  days here in San Diego and its really hard to get good pictures in the bright sunshine. This quilt will be going to  a friend of mine in Maui, can't wait to give it to her!

Art Quilt of Jill Scott ~

I saw pictures of  a class  doing an art quilt of Jill Scott, on sistah stitch alot's blogspot from a few years ago.  I really liked it, so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm still deciding if I like the shirt or not, I'm going to set aside for awhile and ponder :)
Enjoy ~

Art Quilts ~

I have three art quilts going at once! They're  so  fun to do, although they are very time consuming. This is another one of my granddaughters on the beach in Maui, can you tell that's  Molokai in the back ground?  Still have many waves to add, sand needs to be finished, clouds need to be added and all the fine details, which I'm already fretting about!
Aloha!

Making Faces....

I bought the the DVD, Making Faces by Maria Elkins.  I couldn't wait to try it out....  This is a picture of my granddaughter. I was just practicing so it is done with scrap fabrics.  It's small at 7x9. Can't wait to do it in some pretty colors and a bit bigger.

auditioning fabrics....

Woohoo! It is finally done! I struggled with the hand a lot! First my fingers looked to chubby, then the shading was wrong, I worked on it all day on Wednesday and still didn't like the end result.  I need to practice, practice, pratice!
I want to thank Leni Wiener for all her help! Check out her blog at:  www.leniwiener.com
She is very creative!
So now I'm auditioning fabrics for my portrait quilt, thinking I'm going with blue.... maybe green. Boy this is harder than I thought!
Have a good day!

Portrait....

This is what I've been working on. Just need to fix a couple of things on the hand, and I can start auditioning  different background fabrics. Thinking of blue/green.
The hand is bothering me, it just doesn't look right, maybe this way is a bit better, I need HELP!

Surfs up!

We had Big waves this past weekend. Even the birds loved it!  San Diego is an amazing place to live!
